Hanover, VA (1140wrva.com) –  The Hanover Health Department says there has been one confirmed active case of tuberculosis at Atlee High School.  The Hanover County School District has sent parents this notice:

Dear Atlee High School Families,

The Hanover Health Department has notified us that they recently confirmed one active case of tuberculosis (TB) affiliated with Atlee High School (AHS).  Health Department officials have reassured us that this case has been contained, and there is no ongoing risk of TB transmission at AHS.  We have been further reassured that the risk of transmission was low in this instance.

I have attached a letter from the Hanover Health Department that will provide you with additional information concerning this case and next steps.  This includes details about an informational meeting that will be held on Monday, February 5, 2018, at 7 p.m. in the Atlee High School auditorium about TB and the risk of TB transmission. During the meeting, Hanover Health Department staff and TB experts from the Virginia Department of Health will be available to answer questions.

I understand this news may be concerning to you, and I want to reassure you that the safety and health of our students, faculty, and staff will always be our highest priority.  We will continue to work closely with Health Department officials and follow all guidance provided to us, and we will keep you updated on any additional information that we may receive.

In the meantime, should you have specific questions regarding this matter, you may contact the Hanover Health Department at (804) 365-4313 between 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, to speak with Nancy Davis, RN, or Joanna Cirillo, RN.
