Richmond, VA (wrva.com) -  Richmond Police confirm the naked man, shot after acting weirdly on I-95 near Chamberlayne, has died.   Marcus-David Peters, 24, of Dartmouth Avenue, was shot after a hit and run and chase that began at Belvidere and Franklin streets.  An Officer witnessed the hit and run, and followed Peters, who then crashed his car at the Chamberlayne Road on-ramp to I-95.

Police say Peters then exited the car, naked, and ran onto the interstate.  Eventually, police say the man started to attack the officer.  Peters was first hit with a taser, and then, when that proved unsuccessful, was shot.

Chief Alfred Durham has spoken with the family to offer his condolences.

“We are all deeply affected by what happened here – by the loss of life,” said Chief Durham. “Our officers do not take the use of deadly force lightly. I think it’s important to remember that being naked does not remove a threat. So far, the eyewitness accounts we’ve heard have been consistent: our officer tried using verbal commands, then used non-lethal force first by deploying his Taser before using his service weapon.”

Richmond police are asking anyone who may have shot video of the incident to please contact them and provide it to them.  They are also looking to talk to any witnesses as well.

The officer who fired the shots is on administrative leave, per standard procedure.
