Governor Calls April 11 Special Session

Lawmakers Still Need To Pass A Budget

March 13, 2018 - 3:51 pm

Richmond, VA (1140wrva.com) –   Governor Ralph Northam (D) has called the General Assembly back to Richmond on April 11th.  Lawmakers left the State Capitol on Saturday without passing a budget.  The sticking point remains to be Medicaid expansion.

The House version of the budget includes Medicaid expansion, and the federal dollars it would bring.  The Senate version does not.  As a result, the two sides are hundreds of millions of dollars apart.

If no budget is agreed to by July 1st, state government would shut down.
