Big Fire Danger Over Next Few Days

Warmth, Dry Ground, Wind, Late Spring Is A Bad Mix

Richmond, VA ( –  State Forestry officials says the fire danger today could be the worst in the last few years.   The department's Fred Turck says they rank it as a Class 4 on a five point scale.  The concern is a mixture of warm weather, winds, a late spring, and dry ground has created a perfect fuel for fires.

Turck is asking people not to burn anything outside over the next few days.  Virginia is in the midst of a 4pm burn ban right now, where burning is banned prior to 4pm.  However, Turck says conditions are such that burning would be bad at any point.

Turck says the fire season this spring has actually been rather calm, because of the cold and snow we have received late into the spring.
